With Disney+ around the corner, Netflix announces a UK price increase.

Streaming giant Netflix has announced that it’s increasing the prices of some up its subscriptions by up to 20%.

Whilst its basic plan is still going to be available for £5.99 a month and won’t change (this is the one that allows you to watch on one device only, and in standard definition), others will. Thus, the most popular subscription option, the standard plan, is going from £7.99 to £8.99 a month.

Meanwhile, the premium subscription is now going to leap from £9.99 to £11.99.

Netflix is raising its prices as the threat of Disney+ looms. Disney’s streaming service launches in the US this year, with the UK rollout expected in 2020. It’s expected too that Disney will undercut Netflix, as it’s doing in the US.

Netflix plans to invest heavily in TV shows and movies to address the threat of its new rival. It currently has 10 million subscribers in the UK.
