Each week, we recommend an independent British movie podcast – and this time, we’re shining a light on At The Flicks.

Podcasting isn’t just reserved for people in their 20s and 30s. It’s a medium that’s increasingly popular for older film lovers to get together and chat about movies they love, and impart their many years of wisdom and experience to listeners of all ages.

One excellent podcast (and I know they won’t mind me saying) consists of such a team; now semi-retired from their jobs working for a global IT company but still working hard at podcasting and bringing new blood to the audible market. They are At The Flicks aka Jeff, Graham and Neil; three friends who took their Sunday movie and coffee meets and decided to record their conversations.

Together, with a team of regular collaborators, including Declan, Phil, Lucy, Elijah, Emma, Jardiel, Steve and Sam, the At The Flicks team offer are an all-encompassing podcast covering pretty much every genre, every decade and every facet of cinema (as well as a bit of TV thrown in for good measure!)

Each host has a specific role in the creation of the podcast; Jeff plans out the episodes and arranges any talent collaborations or interviews, Graham is the technical wizard and manages the edit suite, and Neil concentrates on research. Well, they do say three is the magic number.

Two years later, the At The Flicks team is going from strength to strength, regularly collaborating with other podcasters. The podcast is very music a movie lovers magazine style show, concentrating on reviews, news, features and interviews; all of which are varied in their scope. They’re very proud to have interviewed film composer Rupert Christie, art director Kirk Doman and Marc Jobst, who directed episodes of Netflix’s The Witcher, amongst many others.

They also regularly get involved with their local BBC radio station for ‘Classic Film Friday’, and are deeply passionate about supporting independent filmmaking, especially at the local annual Stroud Film Festival.

The core three hosts describe themselves as of “a certain age” but At The Flicks is of a certain quality that many podcasts aspire to be.
