British Movie Podcast of the Week – False Starts

Our weekly independent movie podcast choice looks at cinematic universes that never came to be.

Cinematic universes are big business. There are some that work incredibly well, some that are middling in their attempts and some… just fail to get off the ground completely. It seems nowadays like all the film studios want a cinematic universe, and have big plans as such, until the first movie struggles and/or fails under the weight of the massive expectations placed upon it.

Good friends Dan, Lewis and Ashley noticed this fad, wondered what causes these potential franchises to fail so spectacularly, and lo and behold a podcast was born! False Starts’ premise is simple, but effective; take these prospective cinematic universe movies and look at the proposed sequels that could have, should have, or should never under any circumstances have, been and discuss them.

Dan, Lewis ands Ashley each take turns hosting episodes, which gives the other two a couple of weeks off to plan their forthcoming episodes and it’s clear these guys do their research. It also leads to interesting conversations when the next host announces their choice, often to the contempt and exasperation of the other guys.

Each of the guys has wildly differing opinions, which always makes for a fun listen, and as with all podcasts hosted by good friends, there’s plenty of banter and laughs.

False Starts doesn’t just cover “bad” movies; they’ve also covered some beloved classics, and you’re sure to find something in their history you’ll have an affinity with.

Listening to this podcast is definitely not a False Start!
