Each week, we recommend a British independent movie podcast we think is worth a listen – let us introduce you to Moving Picture Madness.

In compiling this week’s Film Stories British movie podcast recommendation, we got in touch and asked the hosts of Moving Picture Madness to summarise their podcast in three words. So, if you like the idea of either ‘knowledgeable naughty boys’ or ‘mischievous entertaining beefcakes’, then this is the podcast for you.

Moving Picture Madness, in all seriousness, is clearly hosted by a couple of guys who don’t take themselves too seriously, but they do take movies seriously, and they really know what they’re talking about. Ant and Matt would spend hours talking online about film, and when Ant mooted the idea of starting a podcast focusing on films and pop culture, Matt was only too happy to volunteer to be his co-host.

This is a partnership that not only exudes knowledge and chemistry on Moving Picture Madness, but it extends to behind the scenes, with Ant and Matt equally splitting podcast production, research and social media duties.

Listening to the recommended episode on Robert Eggers is a great example of the friendship that powers this podcast. Not only is it a fascinating look into a director whose two features have been consistently well-regarded, but when Ant and Matt do go on tangents, they’re incredibly intelligent and well-informed, and never feel out of place in the episode.

Both guys are passionate gamers, having met while playing PS4 online, and this extends to episodes of the podcast focused on video game movie adaptations; that the expectations of fans means that filmmakers are damned if they do and damned if they don’t regardless of the finished product. With a brand-new Mortal Kombat movie coming soon, I’d want to know Ant and Matt’s thoughts first.

You’d be unwise to not want Moving Picture Madness in your podcast app…
