British movie podcast of the week: Podcast of the Damned

Our weekly movie podcast recommendations return, and we’ve been listening to Podcast Of The Damned.

Sometimes, you just need a break. Not only has this feature just returned from a brief hiatus, the topic of this week’s Film Stories recommended British movie podcast was also born from an extended break, from one featured podcast to another.

You may remember Ian from the feature on his previous podcast Behind the Screams. When that podcast finished, Ian took a break from podcasting for his mental health. He soon realised that his passion for the horror movies he grew up watching was something that he needed to continue to tell the world about, but in a new way. He enlisted previous collaborator, and good friend, Nico and Podcast of the Damned was the result.

Podcast of the Damned may be called Podcast of the Damned, but it most certainly is not damned when it comes to hosts. It’s blessed with Ian’s steadfast hand at research, editing and social media management, as well as co-host Nico’s assistance with research. Learning from his experiences on Behind the Screams means that Ian continues to prioritise his mental health, while also ensuring he puts out quality episodes every week. It’s something we rarely talk about on these features, but it remains so important for podcasters to take care of themselves first and foremost.

Quality is always at the heart of everything Ian and Nico do, and together their love of horror is palpable. They genuinely believe there’s horror for everyone, and Podcast of the Damned likes to take a comedic and lighthearted look at horror, while also recognising the escapism and catharsis that often comes with simply being petrified. That doesn’t mean they always agree though. In fact listeners of Podcast of the Damned often wonder whether Ian and Nico actually are friends due to their heated debates. We can assure you, they are!

While it’s never nice to see a great podcast end, Podcast of the Damned is proof (if any were needed) that ending a podcast doesn’t make it the end of your personal podcasting journey. Ian and Nico took what was great about Behind the Screams, and built on it, while also ensuring they don’t get too bogged down in the mental health quagmire of download stats and social media presence. Podcast of the Damned is not only a fantastic return to form, but also shows the growth and maturity of themselves as podcast hosts.

There’s no such thing as being ‘damned if you do’ listen to this podcast, but you will be ‘damned if you don’t’…
