Each week, we recommend a British independent movie podcast that we think is worth your time – and this week, we’re heading to Stacey’s.
Stacey’s Pop Culture Parlour started back in 2012, but its heritage actually goes way back. Stacey might actually be one of the most well-established podcasters we’ve featured in this series of articles! Her story starts by being invited onto the Geek Syndicate podcast, one of the longest running geek podcasts in the UK, as Listener of the Month. She had such a great time that she got bitten by the podcasting bug and decided she wanted to start podcasting herself.
Stacey then met Iz McAuliffe through a Geek Syndicate fan site and they bonded over their shared loves of comics. In 2007 they created their podcast Comic Racks, one of the very few female hosted comic book podcasts at the time. After a couple of years of passionate, like-minded nerdy chat, life unfortunately got in the way as it often does and Stacey and Iz called time on Comic Racks.
Eager to get back into podcasting, and missing the camaraderie and geek community she’d built up, Stacey created Stacey’s Pop Culture Parlour in February 2012. It’s a place where you can fully geek out on what you love with no shame and no fear; everyone is welcome at the Parlour whatever you love. Stacey doesn’t have co-hosts, but invites guests on to chat regularly. Her bubbly personality is infectious, her knowledge is astonishing and her passion is unrivalled. It’s a light-hearted and fun podcast that’s great with coffee and cake, or however you choose to relax and unwind.
Just in case you were thinking that was it for Stacey’s achievements, how about three 24-hour podcasting marathons for charity in 2014, 2016 and 2018, which raised a total of £4,300!
She’s a podcaster, a philanthropist and an all-round lovely person, and Stacey shows no sign of slowing down. Stacey’s Pop Culture Parlour remains as welcoming, homely and brilliant as it always has been, and always will be.
So grab a cuppa, pull up a chair and get comfortable in Stacey’s Pop Culture Parlour. You’ll probably want to stay for a while.
