British movie podcast of the week: Strong Language & Violent Scenes

Our podcast recommendation of the week? It has something of a horror edge to it, and there are hundreds of episodes to enjoy.

Here at Film Stories, we don’t normally give out a content warning on our articles, however we need to let you know that reader discretion is advised, as this feature may contain strong language and violent scenes.

No really, it does actually contain strong language and violent scenes, because the podcast we’re recommending this week is – you can see where this is going, right? called Strong Language and Violent Scenes.

Creators Andy Stewart and Mitch Bain met, attended Frightfest together and bonded over a mutual love of horror; the critically acclaimed, the deserving of acclaim and the rest. They naturally decided to put their regular discussions to good use and created a podcast, focusing on divisive or poorly received genre horror films. They dislike the term guilty pleasure, simply for the fact that it’s reductive. Pleasure should never be guilty where movies are concerned. Whereas Andy is a horror film veteran, having enjoying the genre for many years, Mitch is more of a newcomer and together they bring an interesting perspective, for both long-standing fans of horror and rookies alike.

Since starting Strong Language and Violent Scenes in April 2018, Andy and Mitch have amassed an impressive 300+ episodes, and show no signs of slowing down either. Their hosting style is hilarious and often cheeky, with a clear passion for the horror genre. Often the movies they feature are misunderstood classics, and it’s highly likely Mitch and Andy will persuade you to give a particular movie a second chance

Strong Language and Violent Scenes invite regular guest hosts to contribute, such as Brendan Steere, the director of cult classic The Velocipastor in the recommended episode below. They’ve also hosted live shows, something that obviously a global pandemic has stopped, albeit temporarily. They’ve already booked their first live show of 2021 at a film festival in October (lockdown permitting) and can’t wait to get back on the live circuit.

Andy and Mitch have an intense devotion to Strong Language and Violent Scenes, not only producing consistently terrific full-length and mini episodes, but have also relished the opportunity to discuss their love of horror with listeners and build a community of like-minded individuals. To this end they’ve created their own fan Facebook group – The CHUD Locker, as well as a dedicated following on Twitter.

Some horror films may not deserve that second chance, but you can be certain that Strong Language and Violent Scenes will make the journey entertaining, accessible and hilarious.

Strong Language and Violent Scenes is a strong podcast you’ll end up (hopefully not) violently (and hopefully) loving.
