Our weekly independent movie podcast recommendation: this week. it’s the terrific The Filmmakers Podcast.

If you ever met any of the great filmmakers, you’d probably want to know the answer to one burning question: how do you make a feature film? How do you take an idea, gather together a cast and crew and most importantly, the necessary finance, to create a finished product that gets released to the general public?

Luckily, The Filmmakers Podcast is there to answer all the questions you have about the making of film. Whether you’re a wannabe filmmaker yourself, or just a fan of the process, The Filmmakers Podcast is actually made by real filmmakers. From directors to screenwriters; from indie film all the way through to big-budget tentpole releases; every film has a story behind it and The Filmmakers Podcast sets out to tell those stories.

When main host Giles Alderson started out, he found there was very little in the way of resource and information to help him make his first feature film. To rectify this, he roped in a variety of other filmmakers to co-host, and as everyone is regularly working making films, TVor ads a lot of the time, there’s a regular rota of available guest co-hosts for Giles to pick from.

Over 150 episodes later and it’s clear that there’s no set formula to making a film. Each experience differs and each special guest brings their own stories. Big names to feature on The Filmmakers Podcast including director Neil Marshall, screenwriter Krysty Wilson-Cairns and even big name actors, like the one and only Mark Strong (see recommended episode below for an excellent chat with him!)

It’s really easy to watch a film and be disappointed with the finished product in some way. It’s even easier to go online and berate that film on social media. The Filmmakers Podcast goes a long way into showing just how much hard work and dedication goes into making film. No one sets out to make a bad one. Everyone worked incredibly hard on it. If anything, this podcast gives you more appreciation for the industry and the brilliantly talented people who work within it.

If you’re interesting in filmmaking, or even in becoming a filmmaker yourself, The Filmmakers Podcast is there to inspire, to guide and to entertain. It’s a triple-threat podcast that deserves your attention.
