Lionsgate has decided to resurrect the idea for Now You See Me 3, and has hired a new writer to move the project forward.

Four years after the release of Now You See Me 2 – and with a team of crack scientists still trying to explain the ending – it’s been revealed that plans are once again afoot for a third movie in the franchise.

The first two films told of a team of illusionists who turn their magical skills to pulling off heists. Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher, Lizzy Caplan, Mark Ruffalo and Dave Franco have been amongst the ensemble for the movies. They have both been good hits too.

Given the delay in getting the third film together, it looks like Now You See Me 3 is going to shake things up a little, with the plan being to introduce new characters whilst also holding the door ajar if any of the original cast want to return. Jessie Eisenberg for one has expressed interest in returning, when he was doing interviews for the film Vivarium earlier this year.

Eric Warren Singer, whose credits include American Hustle and Top Gun: Maverick has been hired to write the new movie. It’s not clear yet if Jon M Chu will return to direct, having taken over from Louis Leterrier for the sequel.

No word on timescales at the moment, but we’ll keep you posted as we hear more.
