Samantha Morton leads the cast of the delightful Save The Cinema – and here’s the trailer for the movie, ahead of its January release.

With due respect to Sky Cinema, for a long time it was the place where movies of variable quality went to premiere. But over the last year, it’s really, really upped its game (the upcoming Mass is quite extraordinary). And we don’t think we’d had to sign a piece of paper for this, so can say that January’s Save The Cinema is a real delight.

It stars Samantha Morton, Tom Felton, Erin Richards, Adeel Akhtar (to call his performance ‘scene-stealing’ is to sell the man short), Jonathan Pryce, Colm Meaney, Owain Yeoman, Keith Allen and Rhod Gilbert. Directed by Sara Sugarman, it tells the story of a small Welsh town whose cinema was under threat: and in desperation, its residents write to arguably the most famous film director on the planet for help.

It’s a true story this, set around The Lyric Theatre in Carmarthen, and the film arrives on Sky Cinema and in cinema from January 14th. Here’s a trailer to give you a taste as to what’s in store. But genuinely, keep an eye out for this one…

We’ll love you for now with the synopsis…

Save The Cinema tells a moving story of hairdresser and theatre lover, Liz Evans, who campaigns in 1993 to save the ‘Lyric’ from closing down. She goes to extreme lengths to save the place she loves the most, but how far is she willing to go?
