20th Century Fox and Fox Searchlight change their names to 20th Century Studios and Searchlight Pictures.
After nearly a century, the 20th Century Fox name will no longer be sitting at the front of the company’s films. It’s the latest development following Disney’s takeover of Fox, and it was revealed just before the weekend that 20th Century Fox will now be going by the name 20th Century Studios. Meanwhile, Fox Searchlight Pictures will now be known as Searchlight Pictures.
The change impacts Fox films from this point on, with Downhill and Call Of The Wild the first movies to be released under the new branding.
The thinking here is that Disney didn’t buy every single Fox asset, and thus it’s unlikely to want its output confused with that of, say, Fox News.
That said, for the minute, 20th Century Fox Television is retaining its names, as is Fox 21 Television Studios. But changes are expected there in the near future too.
All logos are being updated to reflect the new changes, and will be rolled out over the coming weeks.
