50 Shades author sells movie rights to new book

E L James’ The Mister is becoming a movie.

Say what you like about the 50 Shades trilogy of movies and books, but as Blackadder once said, you can’t argue with the box office. Author E L James certainly tapped into something, the franchise brought people pleasure, and many hundreds of millions made their way into the bank.

Universal Pictures, therefore, has been understandably keen to stay in the E L James business, and it’s done a deal for her new book, The Mister. This one is slightly different: it tells of an Albanian housekeeper who falls for a posh British sort. The posh British bloke isn’t aware that his housekeeper is on the run from human traffickers.

James will be producing the new film, although it’s unclear as of yet who will be directing, and who’s going to write the screenplay.

There are no known plans to bring James’ other books in the 50 Shades series, Darker and Grey, to the screen. They, though, tell the same story as the original trilogy, just from the perspective of the character of Christian Grey.

More as we hear it.
