Lockdown restrictions easing in England on non-essential shops mean that HMV is opening the bulk of its stores from today.

The easing of lockdown restrictions around the UK continues this week. And whilst cinemas are still keeping their doors closed until next month, today the majority of HMV and Fopp stores around the UK are open from today.

90 of the chain’s 105 stores are opening. The 90 Fopp and HMV outlets are in England, and the 15 stores in Wales and Scotland are still closed in line with Welsh and Scottish government guidelines.

The stores that are opening will have hand sanitisers widely available throughout the stores, and it’ll be possible to ring through an order in advance for collection. As per The Raygun’s latest newsletter too, the stores have been resigned too with social distancing in mind, although it’s likely to take some time for us customers to adjust to things.

Still, it’s a step forward for the chain. It’s likely Amazon has pretty much cleaned up during lockdown, leaving specialists even more exposed. Here’s hoping HMV finds a way to battle through these latest challenges long term.
