The quest to make a winning Christmas song is at the heart of the upcoming A Christmas Number 1 – and here’s the first trailer for the film.

It’s really hard to make a memorable Christmas movie, as many have found over the last few years. Still, this year is already looking a little better in that regard. A Boy Called Christmas lands via Sky and in cinemas this Friday, and Warner Bros has Aml Ameen’s promising-looking Boxing Day on December 3rd.

Sky meanwhile has backed a second festive feature project, with A Christmas Number One, on that looks like it’s going to play on every festive instrument it can find. It’s directed by Chris Cottam, and stars Freda Pinto, Iwan Rheon, Helena Zengel and Alfie Boe. We’re promised that it’s chock-full of Christmas music and new songs too, and it’s set to land on December 10th.

The trailer and official synopsis have been released. We’ll do them in that order. Trailer first…

And here’s the official synopsis…

Fresh from a breakup with the world’s hottest popstar, music manager Meg Rai (Freida Pinto) leaves New York for London to manage a boyband, 5 Together, who are desperate for a Christmas hit after their latest self-written album flopped. Meanwhile, Blake Cutter (Iwan Rheon), persuaded by his Christmas obsessive, niece, Nina Cutter (Helena Zengel), puts his thrash metal band, Scurve, to one side to write Nina the ultimate Christmas song. When Meg discovers the hit in the making, will this be the Christmas number one the boy band desperately needs or will Blake, the song, and Nina show Meg what truly matters?
