A brand new multiplex complex, boasting the biggest cinema screen in the north west of England, is heading to Blackpool.

In a period of time where cinemas in the UK are shut and good news for the industry is hardly in bountiful supply, here’s something positive. As part of ongoing plans to transform Blackpool town centre, a 25-year lease has been agreed for a brand new IMAX-ready cinema. It’s a partnership with MMC Cinemas, and the new complex will be a mix of nine screens, a conference centre, space for business start-ups and an e-sports café.

The complex will be built as part of the redevelopment of the Houndshill Shopping Centre in the town, with building work getting underway in March. The plan is to have the project completed by spring of 2022, and by the time the MMC Cinema is open, it’ll have the largest cinema screen in the north west of England.

More as we hear it. Everything crossed that normality of life is resumed by this time next year, to give the place the best possible chance of success.
