Casting on the highly-anticipated Marvel Blade project continues to come together as the film inches towards production.

News on the Marvel Cinematic Universe Blade film was pretty scarce for what seemed like a long time, ever since Kevin Feige announced – alongside Mahershala Ali – that it would be reviving the fearsome vampire-hunter during 2019’s Comic-Con.

Whilst we knew from the project’s announcement that Ali will be playing the fearsome vampire slayer, further news felt like a long time coming, with the exception of Watchmen scribe Stacy Osei-Kuffour’s involvement as the writer.

Things have picked up of late though, and we now know that Delroy Lindo also is on board in a ‘secret’ role, with Bassam Tariq set to direct and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige producing, of course.

However, fresh casting news has arrived (via Deadline) with the announcement that Krypton star Aaron Pierre is set to co-star opposite Mahershala in the film. Whilst details on the role he will be playing are being kept under wraps, it sounds like Pierre’s role will be a key one, with the outlet stating that ‘the role itself was one of the more highly coveted parts in Hollywood since Tariq was tapped as director last fall. Execs on the project always had their eye on Lindo for his secret role, but insiders add that Feige, Tariq and others took their time finding the right person for this part, meeting dozens of up-and-coming actors for the role, with Pierre becoming the favourite in recent weeks.’

Pierre is already part of the Disney family, having landed the role of voicing Musafa in Barry Jenkins’ planned prequel to The Lion King. He also featured in last year’s Old, directed by M Night Shyamalan. We’ll bring you more updates on Blade as we hear them.
