Seahorse: The Dad Who Gave Birth is now on iPlayer, following its recent cinema debut.

Earning strong reviews and a brief cinema outing a few weeks back was Jeanie Finlay’s new film, the documentary Seahorse: The Dad Who Gave Birth.

Her film follows the story of Freddy, a 30-year old trans man who desperately wants to start a family. So much so that he decides to carry his own child. A decision that causes all sorts of conflicts within himself. Furthermore, there’s the challenge too of a society festering with hostility towards trans people. For Freddy, he has to face a tumultuous time with the support of the friends and family who are still willing to stand by him. Finlay’s movie follows him for a period of three years, and it’s some piece of cinema.

What’s more, it’s available to viewers in the UK on the BBC iPlayer service, and will be for just over a fortnight. The 86 minute film will be removed from the service on October 9th, and it’s available to download from the service too. Do check it out.
