It’s been announced that Adrian Martinez has joined the cast of Universal’s upcoming monster film, Renfield.

The actor Adrian Martinez, best known for his roles in Focus and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, is the latest addition to the exciting cast of Renfield. Nicholas Hoult will be playing the titular role of Dracula’s servant, while Nicolas Cage fills the shoes of the legendary vampire himself.

Directed by Chris McKay (who helmed Amazon’s The Tomorrow War and The Lego Batman Movie), Renfield will focus on the title character’s dissatisfaction after spending centuries serving Dracula.

He finds a new interest in the form of Awkwafina’s Rebecca Quincy – clearly based on the Quincey Morris of Bram Stoker’s gothic novel – but reimagined as a modern day traffic cop. Much like Universal’s most recent monster films, The Invisible Man and The Mummy, the studio has decided to again update their classic characters for the present day.

Deadline has reported that Martinez has been cast as Quincy’s work colleague named Chris. We sadly don’t have more information on what part his character will play at the moment, but it’s still early days.

To make things even more interesting, the script is being written by Ryan Ridley, who is best know for his writing work on comedy series Rick and Morty and Community. Could this Dracula retelling possibly be a comedy? It would certainly fit with the acting talents of Cage and Awkwafina.

We’ll bring you more news on Renfield as we hear it.
