Will Smith is set to return in a sequel to Disney’s live action Aladdin.

Following the huge success of Disney’s live action Aladdin remake last year, the rumours that circled soon after are true: a sequel is very much in the works.

The film will bring in new writers this time, with John Gatins and Andrea Berloff working on a screenplay for the sequel. Will Smith is expected to return as the Genie of the lamp, along with Mena Massoud and Naomi Scott. The script isn’t ready as of yet, so still lots of questions to answer, including whether Guy Ritchie will return to direct the new film.

One thing is known, though: contrary to one or two early rumours, the plan with the film is to make this a theatrical release, rather than a Disney+ project.

No word yet on just when to expect the movie, but it’s going to be a good two years away at the very least. We’ll keep you posted as we find out more.
