Guy Ritchie’s soon-to-shoot Afghan action thriller will be premiering on Amazon’s streaming platform, whilst receiving a theatrical release via MGM in the US.

Guy Ritchie hasn’t started filming his next project yet, but plans are to do so this month, in Alicante, Spain. The film, which reportedly has a production budget of around $55m, is an as yet untitled action movie (although some sites are referring to it as The Interpreter,) set during the Afghan conflict, and stars Jake Gyllenhaal.

Amazon has snapped up the international rights to the film, whilst MGM have the US rights, where it seems the film may release first before Amazon premiere it internationally. Wrath of Man, Ritchie’s most recent film, also came to Amazon, whereas his next release, Operation Fortune: Ruse De Guerre, is set to hit cinemas later this month.

In his next film, Gyllenhaal plays ‘plays Sgt. John Kinley, a soldier on his last tour of duty in Afghanistan when he is teamed with local interpreter Ahmed to survey the region. When their unit is ambushed on patrol, Kinley and Ahmed are the only survivors, and with enemy combatants in pursuit, Ahmed risks his life to carry an injured Kinley across miles of gruelling terrain to safety. On U.S. soil, Kinley learns that Ahmed and his family were not given passage to America as promised. Determined to protect his friend and repay his debt, Kinley returns to the warzone to retrieve Ahmed and his family before local militias reach them.’

Ritchie penned the script with regular writers Ivan Atkinson and Marn Davies. Like Ritchie, Gyllenhaal is equally busy at the moment, with his collaboration with Michael Bay, Ambulance, debuting this year, not to mention his involvement with heavily-rumoured projects such as the adaptation of the popular video game, The Division.
