Amblin’s Last Voyage Of The Demeter casts its Dracula

A Dracula spin-off from Amblin is zeroing in on a single chapter in Bram Stoker’s novel – and a new big screen Dracula has duly been cast.

Of all of the Dracula spin-off movies we have on the way, including Dexter Fletcher’s Renfield and the recently-announced film following Van Helsing’s sons, it’s Last Voyage Of The Demeter which is the most intriguing. Andre Øvredal’s upcoming film promises to take on a single chapter of Bram Stoker’s original book, where the vampire preys on the unwitting crew of the Demeter as he travels by sea to England.

As the film officially moves into its production phase, we finally have some casting news, including who will be playing Dracula.

Javier Botet is the latest Drac. The 6’7 actor has played a gallery of monsters including Slender Man, the xenomorph in Alien Covenant, as well as roles in established horror franchises such as It and The Conjuring. Botet’s casting seems to confirm suspicions that the Dracula character in the film will be a little-seen monster who preys on his victims from the shadows, sort of like Predator if it was set on a sea voyage to Whitby.

The other casting is equally exciting: David Dastmalchian of The Suicide Squad will play the ship’s first mate, whilst Game Of Throne's Liam Cunningham will no doubt bring some vintage hangdog sourness to the captain’s role. Aisling Franciosi (The Nightingale) will also feature.

We’re very excited for this one and will let you know when we hear more.
