Saoirse Ronan and Kate Winslet star in Ammonite, from director Francis Lee – and here’s the first trailer for the much-anticipated movie.

Director Francis Lee sprung to attention with the terrific God’s Own Country, and he’s now completed his second feature, that’s already generating plenty of interest.

The movie in question is Ammonite, starring Kate Winslet and Saoirse Ronan. And it tells the story of a romance between their two characters in 1840s England.

The film has been picked up by Lionsgate for distribution in the UK, although this first trailer has come from its American distributor, Neon. It gives a flavour of the movie, and it looks like this…

The synopsis, meanwhile, reads as follows…

1840s England, acclaimed but overlooked fossil hunter Mary Anning and a young woman sent to convalesce by the sea develop an intense relationship, altering both of their lives forever.

The film is set for release in the US on November 13th. When we have a UK release date, we’ll let you know…
