1997’s Anaconda is getting a big screen ‘reimagining’.

My standout memory of the original 1997 Anaconda movie is the same as most people’s: the look on Jon Voight’s face throughout it. I believe it was the late, great Barry Norman who described him as King Sneer in the film.

The movie has been followed by sequels that swerved the big screen. But in a surprise piece of news, we now learn that Sony is interested in a big screen reboot.

Evan Daugherty has been hired by the studio to pen a script for a new Anaconda movie, and the direction the new film will take is towards a ‘reimagining’. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the influence here is the success that Warner Bros enjoyed in 2018 with The Meg, and that’s the tone that Sony wants the new movie to go for.

As of yet, there’s no word on a director or who will star in the new film. Just that Sony is looking to bring the franchise back to the big screen. As we hear more, we’ll let you know…
