Cats (the stage show, not the film) is to head to YouTube for free streaming this weekend – details right this way.

Andrew Lloyd Webber is continuing his programme this week of releasing full, filmed versions of his musical productions for a limited time. It’s all under the umbrella of The Shows Must Go On, a YouTube channel that was launched around the time the UK went into lockdown.

Each week, a new show is made available on said channel for 48 hours. And this week? We’re getting a full production of the musical Cats.

It’s not, we should clarify, the film version, that’s heading to disc in the UK from the start of June. Rather a version of the stage musical that was filmed back in 1999. The production in question stars Elaine Paige and Sir John Mills, and it’ll appear at The Shows Must Go On YouTube channel from Friday 15th May at 7pm.

The link to the channel is here.

Finally, the official synopsis for the show reads as follows…

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s CATS, one of the most famous musicals of all time, first exploded onto the West End stage in 1981. ‘Memory’, one of its many classic songs, became an instant worldwide hit. Since then CATS has smashed records and conquered the world. Boasting an all-star cast headed by Elaine Paige and Sir John Mills, breathtaking visuals and the full digital sound of an eighty piece orchestra, this show lead you deep into the mysterious world of CATS. CATS – more mesmerising and magical than you could possibly imagine.

More as we hear it.
