Andy Garcia will reportedly take on the Steve Martin role in the upcoming Latinx-focused remake of a remake of Father Of The Bride.

We’ve known for a while now that a Latinx-focused version of Father Of The Bride is on the way. This will be the third re-imagining of the series after the 1950s original and the 1990s remake. Matt Lopez, scribe of Race To Witch Mountain, is writing and the story is set to follow a large Cuban-American family this time around.

Now, we also know who the head of that family will be.

Andy Garcia has been tapped to take on the role of the titular father of the bride in the planned film. We all know know how Garcia can combine humour and charm as he did so well in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again. With the new version said to be more in the style of a rom-com than the previous two incarnations, Garcia’s gifts will no doubt be an asset to the project.

No release date has been scheduled yet, although Gary Alazraki has been tapped to direct, with Warner Bros and Plan B producing.

Garcia had this to say about the project: “I’m very excited to join The Father Of The Bride, a beloved film that has brought so much joy to so many over the years and to represent my Cuban culture and heritage in this story. I commend Warner Bros. for their foresight and celebrate this opportunity they have created. I am looking forward to my collaboration with our talented director Gaz Alazraki and producers Jeremy Kleiner and Dede Gardner from Plan B”.

We’ll keep you posted on future casting announcements as we hear them.
