Antonio Banderas joins Indiana Jones 5

The cast for the currently-filming Indiana Jones 5 continues to grow, with Antonio Banderas jumping aboard.

Another new name has been added to the cast of the upcoming Indiana Jones 5 and it’s quite the announcement. Antonio Banderas, no slouch in the derring-do department himself with a legacy of action roles such as Zorro and El Mariachi on his resume, will be joining the impressive ranks of the Indy 5 production. He joins Boyd Holbrook, Shaunette Renee Wilson, Thomas Kretschmann, Mads Mikkelsen, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and of course, Harrison Ford.

With the Indy films themselves based upon 1930s pulp adventure stories, the characters in the franchise have always been based upon simple archetypes, so even with the main casting seemingly continuing to grow, we can begin to speculate which actors will be playing which types of roles.

It’s being reported that the film will partly take place in New York in the 1960s, thanks to a tweet from James Mangold and that seems to have been at least partly confirmed by set photos of Waller-Bridge in a costume clearly of that era.

Further details are not in abundance at the moment, but as we hear more, we’ll let you know. Indiana Jones 5 – as it won’t be called – is due in cinemas in July 2023.
