Baby Driver 2 is written, confirms Edgar Wright

Edgar Wright has written three drafts of Baby Driver 2, he confirms, with the film held up due to the global pandemic.

Whilst we wait for the release of Edgar Wright’s new movie, Last Night In Soho, he’s been chatting with Variety about his upcoming music documentary, The Sparks Brothers. The documentary tells the full story of the band, and that should be released this year too. Currently, Last Night In Soho is scheduled – after a couple of inevitably Covid-enforced delays – for this autumn. A double helping of Edgar Wright on the big screen in 2021? We can but hope.

In terms of what he’s doing next though, there’s a sporting chance it might be his mooted sequel to Baby Driver. He talked around the time of that movie’s release of having plans for a follow-up. Now he’s confirmed in the interview that it’s still an active project. “It’s written”, he’s said. “I’ve actually written three drafts of it”.

The delay in getting it moving is inevitably the fact that the world is still in the grip of a pandemic, and at one stage it had looked as though the movie would shoot in 2020. Not to be, though.

Ansel Elgort is set to return in the lead role, alongside Lily James, Jon Bernthal and C J Jones. It remains an active project, but one with no sign of a start date as of yet.

More on the project as we hear it…
