The big West End musical of Back To The Future is heading to London from May of 2021, it’s been revealed – more details here.

2020, as you may know, marks the 35th birthday of the original Back To The Future movie. It was an anniversary that Universal Pictures intended to mark with a lavish new cinema release, the trilogy being remastered for 4K disc release (and it’s now arriving next month on the format), and the premiere of the long-mooted musical of the film.

The film did eventually get back into cinemas, but only as part of the programme of re-releases designed to lure people back to multiplexes. And the musical? Well, it’s bubbling along, but the planned previews in Manchester started, but the run was ultimately truncated due to, y’know, 2020. And now we learn that previews will restart in London from May of next year.

Booking opens today for the show at the Adelphi in London, with the first performance scheduled for May 14th 2021.

The cast too has been announced: Roger Bart, Olly Dobson, Hugh Coles, Rosanna Hyland, Aidan Cutler, Cedric Neal and Courtney Mae-Briggs will form the main ensemble for the show.

This news was broken on Twitter.

No date has been announced for when previews end and the show begins in earnest, but you won’t have to look far for the news when it lands.
