Bad Boys 4 is pressing ahead

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence will return again, for another Bad Boys movie.

It’s been a good weekend for the Bad Boys movie franchise. A third film in the series had been stuck in development for many years, and even when it did get the greenlight, its release was bounced around. That was until Bad Boys For Life finally hit cinemas just last week. And it turns out there’s plenty of appetite for the antics of Will Smith and Martin Lawrence.

The movie grossed $59.2m in its opening weekend in the US alone, $68m if you factor in the full Martin Luther King holiday weekend. Originally, there had been plans to film a third and fourth film back to back. But with the franchise retaining strong audience interest, Bad Boys 4 is now in a position to press ahead anyway.

Chris Bremner, who co-wrote the third film, has already therefore been hired to pen the next. Both Will Smith and Martin Lawrence will reprise the lead roles, with Jerry Bruckheimer back as producer too. No word yet as to when to expect it, but we’d be amazed if this one didn’t happen over the next couple of years.

More as we hear it, of course.
