Basic Instinct is set to land on Ultra HD 4K Blu-ray in the UK by the summer, in a brand new special edition release.
It’s been known for some time that Studiocanal has the rights to a bunch of films that it’s been preparing for the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray format. Last year for instance it gave us the likes of Total Recall, Flash Gordon, The Ladykillers and Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure here in the UK.
It was known too that it had the rights for a release of Basic Instinct that had been expected last year. However, courtesy of the latest edition of The Raygun newsletter – that you can sign up for here – we now know that the disc is going to arriving in the second quarter of this year. That’s not a definite release date, save for we can expect it between April and June 2021.
Here’s the quote from Alison Arber at Studiocanal in the latest newsletter:
“We’re bringing some heat to Q2 with a fantastic new 4K restoration of Paul Verhoeven’s classic neo-noir thriller Basic Instinct. Starring Michael Douglas and Sharon Stone in her breakthrough role, this stunning special edition includes a host of brand new extras, including a fascinating feature length documentary and striking new artwork.”
That’s all the details we have at the moment – but as we hear more, we’ll keep you posted. We’re guessing it’s likely to be more May or June than April…
