Focus Features has bought the film, which will be distributed by Universal Pictures in the UK. The cast includes Dame Judi Dench, Jamie Dornan, Ciaran Hinds and Jude Hill.

As it’s described in the official announcement, Belfast “is the humorous, tender and intensely personal story of one boy’s childhood during the tumult of the late 1960s”. Branagh describes it as “my most personal film. It’s about coming home – a dramatic journey of excitement, emotion and humour”.

The film is currently in post-production and will be released in 2021. When we get more information on a firm release date, we’ll let you know.
