Kenneth Branagh has written and directed what he describes as his most personal film yet – here are more details of Belfast.
Whilst he waits for the release of his new movie Death On The Nile – now pushed back to September 2021 – Kenneth Branagh has certainly been keeping himself busy. He’s written and directed a lower budget production by the name of Belfast, and the worldwide rights to the film have just been acquired.
Focus Features has bought the film, which will be distributed by Universal Pictures in the UK. The cast includes Dame Judi Dench, Jamie Dornan, Ciaran Hinds and Jude Hill.
As it’s described in the official announcement, Belfast “is the humorous, tender and intensely personal story of one boy’s childhood during the tumult of the late 1960s”. Branagh describes it as “my most personal film. It’s about coming home – a dramatic journey of excitement, emotion and humour”.
The film is currently in post-production and will be released in 2021. When we get more information on a firm release date, we’ll let you know.
