Ben Wheatley’s lockdown-conceived and shot movie In The Earth is heading to UK cinemas in June, as per current schedules.

Before he heads off to Jason Statham-land to make The Meg 2, director Ben Wheatley used his time in lockdown to make a brand new movie. The movie is In The Earth, that he also wrote, and he brought together a small cast that includes Joel Fry, Reece Shearsmith, Hayley Squires and Ellora Torchia.

The film tells of a world on the lookout for a cure to a virus that has done untold damage to the world, and as part of that a scientist and park scout head deep into a forest as they undertake a routine equipment run (it says here). Things do not go to plan.

The movie debuted at the Sundance Film Festival earlier in the year, and we now learn that In The Earth has been picked up for UK release by Universal Pictures. Furthermore, it’s landed on the release schedules on Friday 18th June 2021, by which time hopefully cinemas will be open.
