Emmy winning actor Billy Porter’s debut film as director is said to be a throwback to John Hughes.

Billy Porter, an actor who is perhaps most famous for appearing as Prey Tell in the LGBTQ themed series Pose, a role whoich earned him a Best Actor Emmy. Breaking down barriers as the first openly gay black man to win the award, Porter is now stepping behind the camera.

Anything’s Possible will be a coming of age comedy drama about trans high school senior Kelsa, and her struggles with love, friendship and her single mum.

Newcomer Eva Reign will play Kelsa, while Abubakr Ali is her boyfriend and Renée Elise Goldsberry her mother.

Similar in tone to Netflix’s Heartstopper, Porter’s film hopes to be a celebration of LGBTQ joy. Porter said that “This is an aspirational story. It’s almost like a fairytale. We know that. It’s a look at what we can be. That’s what we as artists get to do — look at what we can be and what we should be.”.

The script for this one has been penned by Ximena García Lecuona.

It will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on the 22nd July. Expect a trailer in due course…
