The mooted sequel to Book Club is happening, and everyone’s just decamped to Italy to make the thing: more details here.

2018’s Book Club was that year’s highest grossing film that involved four woman drinking shedloads of wine and talking about a mucky book. A pretty decent movie too. Headlined by Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen and Mary Steenburgen, it crossed $100m at the global box office and chatter about a sequel quickly surfaced.

Inevitably over the past few years things have got in the way a bit, but it’s now been confirmed that Book Club 2 – The Next Chapter is up and running. The film has headed to Italy for filming, with the four leads back in place. Also in the ensemble are Giancarlo Giannini, Vincent Riotta and Hugh Quarshie, alongside Don Johnson, Craig T Nelson and Andy Garcia.

Surprisingly, given how well his Italian accent blends in, there’s no room for Jared Leto in this one. He must be busy.

Bill Holderman is directing, having penned the script with Erin Simms. More news on the movie as we hear it. Presumably we’re looking at a 2023 release date for it.
