Aml Ameen makes his directorial debut with a brand new Christmas film, Boxing Day, that’s now started filming in the UK.

Filming is now underway on a movie that we’re going to go out on a limb and suggest may be released around the end of next year, Boxing Day.

It’s from Aml Ameen, best known for his work in front of the camera thus far. Here, he makes his directorial debut with a script that he’s co-written with Bruce Purnell. Filming will take place in and around London between now and the end of the year.

The ensemble cast includes Ameen, Aja Naomi King, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Marianne Jean-Baptiste. As per the official start of production announcement, “Boxing Day is inspired by the diary of Ameen’s life and is a celebration of love and family through a black-British lens. The film follows Melvin (Aml Ameen), a British author living in America who returns home to London for Christmas to introduce his American fiancée Lisa (Aja Naomi King) to his eccentric British-Caribbean family. Their relationship is put to the test, as she discovers the world her fiancé has left behind”.

In a further boost to the project, that was developed in conjunction with the BFI and Film4, Warner Bros has picked up UK and Ireland distribution rights.

More on the film as we hear it.
