Boy George biopic heading to the movies

The story of Boy George is next for a cinematic telling.

Following the success of both Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman, Hollywood studios are clearly now in the market for biopics of musicians. And next in line is Boy George, whose story has been snapped up by MGM.

Sacha Gervasi (who made the brilliant Anvil: The Story Of Anvil) is to write and direct the biopic, which will explore the early years of Boy George’s life, through to hitting fame as lead singer of the band Culture Club in the 1980s. Whether the film will go beyond that to his subsequent successes isn’t clear.

Kevin King Templeton and Paul Kemsley are producing the film, and Boy George is involved too, with an executive producer credit already confirmed.

No word yet on when to expect the movie, but it’s likely that MGM will want to move forward relatively quickly. More news on it as we get it.
