Bradley Cooper’s next directorial outing moves to Netflix

Bradley Cooper will be following up A Star Is Born with a Bernstein documentary – but now Netflix will be picking up the tab.

After the huge success of his directorial debut, his take on A Star Is Born co-starring Lady Gaga, Bradley Cooper pretty soon indicated that his next project would be a biopic of musical legend Leonard Bernstein.

Unsurprisingly, the project – revealed in the aftermath of A Star Is Born’s success – got some traction, and quickly. Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese were attached as producers, which helped, and Paramount Pictures agreed to make the film back in the spring of 2018.

However, it’s had a change of heart, and Netflix has now stepped in. The film, which covers 30 years in the life of Bernstein, will now be the latest high project project acquired by the streaming giant.

Bradley Cooper has co-written the script for this one with Josh Singer (Singer had been working on it since the project was set to be directed by Martin Scorsese), and production is set to begin in early 2021.

Netflix too is already talking about making sure the movie has a good theatrical release before it heads to its streaming service. That said, expect said release to be on the level of that for The Irishman.

More on the project in due course.
