Bring It On: new sequel to bring back original cast in development

Gabrielle Union and Peyton Reed have been chatting about bringing the original team back together for a new Bring It On movie.

Along with the likes of American Pie, the original Bring It On movie ended up spawning something of a cottage industry in straight-to-DVD sequels. In the case of Bring It On though, it never even got a theatrical follow-up, and the core original cast were jettisoned pretty quickly.

The original movie about competing cheerleading squads remains a firm favourite for many, and now we get news that – finally – the original team may be brought back for another movie.

The news was broken by Gabrielle Union, who told PureWow that she’s been chatting to the director of the original movie – Peyton Reed (who’s been making Ant-Man movies more recently) – as well as its lead, Kirsten Dunst, about a new film.

“Obviously, there’s been a lot of Bring It On sequels”, she told the outlet, “but none that included the original cast or director, so it’s something that we’ve been working on”.

She added that the trio are “trying to figure out what the right take is”, and added “we’re actively working on that as we speak”.

That’s a long way away from the movie actually happening of course, but it’s a very positive step forward.
