Cats movie was only finished on Sunday, the day before its premiere

This time last week, the Cats movie still wasn’t finished, its director confirms.

It’s heading into cinemas around the world this Friday, but it’d be fair to say that there’s been quite the race to the finish line where the movie of Cats is concerned.

It’s been known for a while that director Tom Hooper and his team have been racing against the clock to get the complex film done and dusted. However, in a new chat with Variety, the Oscar-winning helmer explained that the movie was only finished on Sunday morning – the day before its world premiere was held in New York.

No test screenings or cast and crew showing here. The film was done, and whisked away for its first showing the day after, and then press screenings that have been taking place this week (the review embargo lifts at midnight on Thursday).

“I finished it at 8 a.m. yesterday after 36 hours in a row”, Hooper said at the premiere. “I just put the finishing touches on. So, I’m very happy to be here with it fully finished. The premiere should be the first time people get to see it, and this is genuinely a premiere”.

The movie lands in cinemas on Friday, and our review will be with you tomorrow…
