Cats producers on its infamous trailer

Cats lands in cinemas later this week – and rest assured the response to its first trailer was very much seen.

With the film now days away from release, we finally get to see just how reflective of the promotional campaign the Cats movie really is. The film, after all, was subject of one of the most talked about movie trailers of the year, with the first teaser – launched over the summer – pretty much torn apart by the internet.

It seems the world was watching as it did so, and that included producers Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan, the heads of Working Title, the production company backing the movie. Turns out they’ve been pretty circumspect on the trailer reaction too. As Fellner told Variety, “what does one say?”.

“The reality is that 100 million people or more saw the trailer, and, yes, there were some people that didn’t like it, and as is the world we live in, those who didn’t like it were the most vociferous”.

Tim Bevan added that “they were probably people who didn’t know Cats, and the fact is they were either anticipating something animated or something that was on four legs. Among people who know Cats, the reaction was pretty solid.

Changes were made the felines between the trailer and the finished movie, with the visual effects working continuing. And the final versions will be seen on the big screen at the end of this very week.

Cats arrives in cinemas on December 20th.
