Aardman’s previously-announced sequel to Chicken Run is now set to be a Netflix production, it’s been announced.
Cast your mind back a year or so ago, and the news broken that Aardman was finally pressing ahead – after a few false starts – with a sequel to its biggest ever hit, and first feature film. That movie was Chicken Run 2, and the sequel was expected to be heading to cinemas in a couple of years’ time.
Now, though, comes the news that Netflix’s sizeable chequebook has got involved. The streaming giant has announced that Chicken Run 2 has been added to its slate of movies, and that production on the movie will begin in earnest at Aardman’s Bristol facilities next year.
No release date as of yet, but it does seem the consequence of this is that this will be the first Aardman feature film to bypass a wide cinema run. Hope that’s not the case, but we’ll keep you posted as and when we hear more.
