The Cineworld chain has postponed its reopening plans by three weeks, it’s announced, with doors now set to open in England on July 31st.

After originally announcing its plans to reopen in the middle of July, the Cineworld chain has now altered things slightly. It’s made a further announcement that rather than pushing for a July 10th opening, as it had originally stated, the chain will not now open its doors until July 31st in England.

It’s assumed, but not definitely, that its sites in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales will be able to follow suit on the same day.

This comes as studios delay the release of big movies, leaving July barren of new blockbuster movies. Both Mulan and Tenet have been shifted to August releases in the last week, in large part due to ongoing restrictions in Los Angeles and New York. The knock-on though is there’s little point cinemas opening their doors if they don’t have much in the way of new movies to show.

We wait and see if other chains will now follow suit.
