Clerks III: Kevin Smith completes new draft, update

Kevin Smith confirms that a new draft of Clerks III is complete, and shares some new information about the project.

It’s his second or third go at getting this particular project going, but it looks as if Kevin Smith will finally be completing his Clerks trilogy as his next project.

Following 2019’s Jay & Silent Bob Reboot – that incorporated elements of a previous, aborted Clerks III screenplay – Smith signalled his intent to revisit the worlds of Clerks and Mallrats again.

Now, via his Instagram account, he’s confirmed that he’s come up with a new screenplay for Clerks III that he’s gone back and started from scratch.

He wrote that “This is a much more personal story than the previous incarnation, drawing directly on the heart attack that nearly killed me (3 years ago next month). It was oddly triggering writing those scenes, as it was the first time in awhile I contemplated how close I came to shuffling lose this mortal coil”.

He confirmed the return of core characters from the first two films as part of his post (including Trevor Fehrman and Rosario Dawson from Clerks II), and whilst present circumstances make it unclear just when the movie can shoot, the plan is to get it before the cameras this year.

More as we hear it.
