The award winning screenwriter Diablo Cody returns to the horror comedy genre for the first time in over a decade.

Diablo Cody won an Oscar for her very first screenplay Juno in 2007, and has had an eclectic career since then. Penning films as diverse as Young Adult, Ricki and the Flash and her directorial debut Paradise, she now returns to horror comedy for the first time since 2009’s Jennifer’s Body with Lisa Frankenstein.

The film, set in 1989, follows an unpopular high schooler who accidentally re-animates a handsome Victorian corpse during a lightning storm and starts to rebuild him into the man of her dreams using the broken tanning bed in her garage.

Riverdale and former Disney star Cole Sprouse will headline the film alongside Kathryn Newton, who will next be seen in Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

Zelda Williams makes her directorial debut with the film, while Cody’s long time collaborator Mason Novick will produce.

A release date has not yet been announced but we’ll keep you updated as we hear more.
