The Star Wars franchise on the big screen continues, with Taika Waititi now confirmed to be making a new film in the saga.

Nothing much of a surprise here, for two reasons. Firstly, because this particular story has long been rumoured. And secondly, because the rest of the internet reported it yesterday. That notwithstanding, let’s crack on.

A future path for Star Wars on the big screen has been identified, with the confirmation that Taika Waititi is to co-write and direct a future adventure in the series. He’s already got form with the franchise, thanks to his directing work on The Mandalorian. Furthermore, he’s now the proud owner of an Oscar, for his screenplay to Jojo Rabbit. And there’s the smaller matter of Thor: Ragnarok, that he’d previously directed for Disney too.

The new film will be co-written by 1917 co-scribe Krysty Wilson-Cairns.

No release date for this one as of yet. We know there won’t be another Star Wars feature film until 2022, however, so it’s going to be a while away yet. We’ll keep you posted. But then again, so will everyone else…
