Adam Wingard will be back to direct Godzilla Vs Kong 2, it’s been confirmed, and he’s bringing along Dan Stevens this time.

The first film to cross $100m at the US box office since the pandemic first hit, Godzilla Vs Kong might not be too many people’s idea of high art, but it’s a lot of fun. Big creatures smashing each other, lots of noise, popcorn being propelled down people’s throats? Turned out it was just the ticket.

It’s already known that a sequel was in the offing, with production being mooted to star this year. Now we get an idea of who’s involved.

Firstly, Adam Wingard – who helmed the last film – is coming back. And he’s also bringing along Dan Stevens, who he directed in the terrific The Guest.

Stevens will be the human fodder in the midst of the latest CG smash-up, and the plan now is to start filming in Australia over the summer. The movie presumably will then land in 2024 at some point, once all the necessary computerised bits have been added.

More as we hear it.
