David O Russell’s star-studded next project sets release date

David O Russell’s new film will be with us later this year, even though we don’t yet have an actual title for it – more here.

We don’t yet know much about director David O Russell’s next film, and in particular what it’s actually about. Russell hasn’t helmed a movie since 2015’s Joy, following a highly impressive couple of years where he released a string of films including The Fighter, Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle.

With the director being something of an awards magnet, who also excels at getting career-high performances out of actors, it seems that there was shortage of actors wanting to work with Russell on this latest, as yet-untitled project (in spite of, it’s worth acknowledging, reports of his alleged behaviour).

Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, John David Washington, Rami Malek and Zoe Saldana would be a starry ensemble in their own right, but they’ll also be joined by the likes of Robert De Niro, Mike Myers, Timothy Olyphant, Michael Shannon, Chris Rock, Anya Taylor-Joy, Andrea Riseborough, Matthias Schoenaerts, Alessandro Nivola and oh yeah, Taylor Swift.

That’s certainly a lot of talent for one film.

Shooting took place in California between January and March. The project is based on an original idea by Russell himself and now we have a release date. November 22nd has been earmarked for its US debut, so we can expect to see it here in the UK at around the same time.

More as we hear it.
