Ryan Reynolds will return as Deadpool, as Disney finally gets things moving on a third film in the series.

One of the movies that found itself in limbo when Disney acquired Fox was the Deadpool series. Two movies in, both films have made a lot of money but neither are features you’ll find on Disney+ anytime soon.

Would Disney then press ahead with a third film, appreciating that there’s no way it could realistically avoid being R-rated? The answer, it turns out, is yes.

Ryan Reynolds will be returning in the title role, and Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin have now been hired to write Deadpool 3. It’s very early in development so far, but Disney’s been happy with the pitch from the two writers.

One person unlikely to return is director David Leitch, whose busy schedule is likely to leave him unable to direct this one. No word yet on who will take over, and just when to expect the movie. But one thing appears to be clear: Deadpool 3 is finally back on.
