Donald Glover to return as Lando Calrissian, according to fresh rumour

After debuting his take on the role in Solo, Donald Glover looks like he’s going to get another run at playing Lando Calrissian in Star Wars.

Whilst Star Wars is taking something of a hiatus as far as the movies go, Disney+ continues to commission material from A Galaxy Far, Far Away for its small screen streaming platform. Now an older rumour has resurfaced that suggests that Donald Glover may be getting his own series, charting the further adventures of the galaxy’s best dressed scoundrel and smooth-talking charmer: Lando Calrissian, according to Dark Horizons.

Despite circulating before, the source of the buzz this time adds credence to the story. Podcast Kessel Run Transmissions has form in breaking new Star Wars news for Disney+, having correctly revealed The Clone Wars spin-off, The Bad Batch ahead of its official announcement. With no Star Wars Celebration happening this year, it’s entirely likely that this news is ready for an official release from Disney itself and that it’s just figuring out how to announce it without having the usual fanfare of its annual flagship Star Wars event to dominate the headlines for a week.

What is certain is that Disney+ is in need of new material and Glover’s character, one of the best aspects of 2018’s Solo, certainly fits the bill. Although not entirely Disney’s fault due to Covid-related shutdowns, much of its grand rollout plans for 2020 have been curtailed leaving the platform a little starved of the type of programming that was anticipated at its announcement.

With the future of Star Wars on the big screen yet to be clarified, it’s good at least, to hear that one of the film series’ most successful elements is going to be reincarnated. Now we just need to wait for the announcement of the fabled Miller & Lord cut of Solo. How does the line go? 'Never tell me the odds?’
