Animals that talk, we’ve all seen before: animals that talk whilst committing heists? Consider our interest piqued.

DreamWorks Animation and Universal Pictures have just released the full trailer for their upcoming animated feature The Bad Guys. The film is about about a group of talking animal who just happen to also be heist-committing criminals. The project is based on the popular books by Aaron Blabey.

DreamWorks has produced the movie with Universal distributing. The project first surfaced in 2017 when several studios were said to be interested in developing Blabey’s book into an animated feature. The idea behind The Bad Guys is to use animation to offer a slyly different take on the heist genre in the same way that Dreamwork’s Shrek famously did for fairy tales back in 2001.
The film’s synopsis certainly looks fun and there’s the usual talented ensemble of stars lending their voice talents too.
The team of career criminals is led by Mr. Wolf (Sam Rockwell) alongside safecracker Mr. Snake (Marc Maron), master-of-disguise Mr. Shark (Craig Robinson), short-fused muscle Mr. Piranha (Anthony Ramos), and sharp-tongued hacker Ms. Tarantula (Awkwafina). After years of countless heists and being the world’s most-wanted villains, the gang is finally caught and promise to go good. With the help of their guinea pig mentor Professor Marmalade (Richard Ayoade), they try and fool the world in regards to their change of heart.’
Zazie Beetz and Alex Borstein also co-star in the film, which is set to arrive in cinemas on April 22nd.
Here then is the trailer, ahead of the film’s April launch…
